I’m still ruing the fact that I had to turn down my invitation to the Toni Maticevski Australian Fashion Week show at the St Kilda Sea Baths in Melbourne and I hope I’m not the only one. According to media reports, the 10 outfit collection was presented to a small audience with half filled seats.
But Maticevski managed to impress those in attendance nonetheless with his brand of tailoring so that nothing looked out of place. High-waisted asymmetric skirts and pants that emphasized the silhouette in crushed cotton and his signature shredded silk in subtle colours of cream, ivory and sand went down the runway slowly to lengthen the show.
What you couldn’t take your eyes away from was the six inch kangaroo fur trimmed heels made especially for his group showing at New York Fashion Week beginning on September 8.
Chosen out of 2,000 designers as part of the “UPS Delivering Fashion’s Future” initiative, Matecevksi will show 30 unseen looks under tents in Bryant Park for first time in a week of shows that attracts editors and buyers from around the globe.
With a mix of ready-to-wear and red carpet, the collection will be accessoriesed with jewellery Maticevski created together with Autore South Sea Pearls.
Now why can’t I get an invite to that Toni Matecevski show….
