I have often been amazed at the ease that super talented fashion stylists can take racks full of clothes and turn it into an amazing photograph. Each outfit is so carefully thought out, accessorized to perfection and photographed with just the right amount of precision. But it’s not just about the clothes.
As the New York Times says, “Stylist: The Interpreters of Fashion (Style.com’s first book), makes clear, are the handsomely paid but largely unheralded behind-the-curtain personnel. Stylists do not merely push but sometimes also find the buttons, cast the models, choose the colors, hire the hair-and-makeup divas, build the outfits, layer upon layer, or strip them down.”
“Stylists have a sixth sense for the pulse of the fashion world. And as a result, the effect of their input is not always seen. This book is an opportunity to celebrate their amazing work,” says Candy Pratts Price, executive fashion director of Style.com.
The book features photographs from the likes of Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, Helmut Newtown and Mario Testino, with stylists like Paul Cavaco, Grace Coddington, Carine Roitfeld, Venetia Scott, Brana Wolf and Joe Zee also taking part.
With a foreword written by Anna Wintour, and words by Sarah Mower, Stylist: The Interpreters of Fashion, by Style.com is one to put on your Christmas wish list. The book lands in bookstores on Tuesday, October 30th and will retail for US$75.
For every book sold between October 30, 2007 and August 31st, 2008, 5% of the retail price will benefit The American Red Cross with a minimum donation of $15,000
This is lovely. I have to get my hands on this book!
