I have a soft spot for designer boutiques – designer clothes look so lonely and taken out of context when they’re hung on department store hangers amongst hundreds of other brands. So when an invite came to attend a launch to celebrate New Zealand designer Kate Sylvester‘s first international boutique in Sydney, come hail or shine I was going to be there.
Turns out it was just humid so it was well worth visiting Sydney’s premier shopping strip Oxford St first thing in the morning to see the Kate Sylvester Spring/Summer 2010 collection entitled ‘Take A Hike’ up close and personal again (we saw it on the runway at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week earlier this year) as well as get a glimpse at her diffusion label Sylvester.
The bright spacious store was the perfect antidote to being out and about early with a sense of fun and whimsy in the air – how can it not be when Crayola coloured Doc Martins, sequined spats and classic Penguin books were dotted around the room to compliment the quirky cool clothes? (We were secretly pleased when the goody bag included a copy of Lolita wrapped in a polka dot Kate Sylvester silk scarf.)
