Whenever I get the chance I love jumping on a plane to go home to Melbourne. The city is a veritable mixing pot of local and international designers along with its maze of lane ways unveiling hidden pleasures at every turn. My first stop this trip was a visit to Arabella Ramsay‘s pop up store, Temporary Pleasures, in the heart of Melbourne city shopping.
The Melbourne based designer wanted to reach out to the city area and show off her Spring 2010 collection, May West, along with the work of fellow Australian designers and her favourite international ones.
“It was a great chance to create a real buzz for the brand in the city. I am stocking various labels that I have handpicked from my travels around the world,” Ramsay tells us.
“The pop-up shop is really a glimpse into my life, from my own designs to all the things that I love. Also having an assortment of designers is a great way to style the city customer from head to toe, from my own shoes to the hot sunglasses by French man Thierry Lasry, to Current Elliot denim and my cousin Lucy Folk‘s jewelry to top it off.”
Following the trend to open up a temporary pop-up store to test the waters, Melbourne’s Yeojin Bae has set up a temporary shop for four days in Sydney giving her Sydney based fans a hit-it-or-you’ll-miss it chance to snap up pieces from her pre-summer 2010 collection Jet Set and her summer 2010 collection Joie de Vivre.
“I’m excited to be able to present my full collection to the public for the first time in Sydney in a really beautiful and intimate space,” Bae says. “And I look forward to meeting some of my customers as I plan to be at the pop up store every day.”
