Inspired by Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef, Kit Willow took us on romantic journey with her spring 2010 collection at New York Fashion Week.
While we’ve come to expect beautiful collections from one of Australia’s premier designers, Willow took my breath away when the heavily embellished jackets with structured shoulders stepped out on to the runway. Turning to the ocean for inspiration, Willow adorned her garments with mother-of-pearl buttons, which shimmered with all sorts of underwater secrets as they shone under the bright runway lights. It was fresh and inspired, especially after seasons of heavy metal embellishments. In turn it was a more romantic and mature collection from the Aussie, though I do question some of the figure hugging floral pieces in teal and brown with brown being a strange choice for spring.
