Milan Fashion Week Fall 09/10: Video wrap up (part one)

It’s more than half way through fashion ‘month’ (4 weeks of fashion show = 1 month) and we’re already in the final hours of Milan Fashion Week for Fall 2009/10. We’re trying to catch up after a very busy week, and what better way than with a staple that is YouTube?

First, Angela Missoni went back to her roots by going back to knitwear in a major way – models were drapes in seemingly endless amounts of knits in all different textures. While it was a cosy show, I really missed the show stopping gowns and gorgeous prints from previous seasons. But Missoni was just the beginning – Giorgio Armani followed, revisiting the 1980s with the power suit, now with cleaner lines and a modern fit as models walked down the catwalk two-by-two, pausing at the middle to do the 1980s stop and turn. But what caught everyone’s eye was perhaps not the always-stunning red carpet worthy evening gowns, but the show’s soundtrack consisting of the power singers of the 1980s, Tina Turner and Grace Jones.

With rumours that Dolce & Gabbana cosmetics face, Scarlett Johansson, was due front row at their fashion show on Sunday, all eyes turned to the design duo as they showed their Fall collections for their younger line, D&G. Taking inspiration from the world of theatre, they paid homage to Maria Callas – as designers seem to do every few seasons. Like the theater with all its forms of women, Domenico and Stefano created opulent looks worthy of a flirty and feminine minx and a tomboy. Pieces seemed to be made out of the more luxurious velvets and silks or embellished with jewels that made the models sparkle.
