BY CASH PASSPORT PREPAID MASTERCARD
Confession: I love online shopping. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t check at least a dozen online stores for their newly uploaded items or freshly marked down bargains. I also don’t discriminate between department stores sites, high street brands and deal sites. But what gets me every time is the changing exchange rates and the international transaction fees on my credit card. After all that extra few dollars could have been put towards that Zimmermann bikini on Shopbop, or those pretty candles from Gilt, or beauty products from Net-A-Porter. And that is where the beauty of the Cash Passport Prepaid MasterCard comes in.
After a quick sign up process online (took us 2 minutes!), we were sent a Cash Passport with USD$200 last week to trial and report back on our experiences, but we didn’t know where to start. We literally wanted to shop our way around the world. But first things first, we loaded the card up with some British Pounds, Euros and Hong Kong dollars before we hit the proverbial ‘shop’ button on our laptop.
Our first stop was in Hong Kong, to check out the legendary Lane Crawford’s online store, with every luxury item a girl could ever want, and we narrowed down our choices to new summer sandals or a bikini. After all the sun is coming out in Australia and we need new clothes right?
Then we jumped on a plane to London and visited Net-A-Porter for their beautifully laid out website for some summer bags and hard-to-find beauty products and Wolf & Badger for some up and coming brands. Space.NK.apothecary is always worth a visit as being the source of some must-have but hard to find beauty brands and products. Then we hit Europe with aplomb, first jumping on a imaginary EuroStar train to Paris and hitting up Colette on the Rue-Saint Honore for some avant garde designs, then getting some pasta and amazing European designs from LuisaViaRoma and Yoox. Then it was on to the USA for some Pixie Market high-street style action and then on to Shopbop for the aforementioned Zimmermann bikini.
That quick whirl around the world took us probably an hour from the comfort of our living room and saved us the drama of working out the conversion rates and getting charged an extra international transaction fee. Which means, we often get a fantastic rate and save a little bit of extra cash by having a locked in exchange rate.
The Cash Passport can hold up to 10 currencies (USD/GBP/EURO/AUD/NZD/THB/CAP/HKD/JPY/SGD) and Mastercard is accepted at many many online stores around the world.
