Milan Fashion Week S/S 2013: Karl Lagerfeld does geometric glam at Fendi

Every year when fashion months rolls around, there are several shows that we just can’t wait to see. And every year, there is one designer who impresses us without fail. That designer is of course Karl Lagerfeld, who consistently presents breathtaking collections. This year at Fendi, Lagerfeld strayed away from the monochrome looks of shows in New York and London, preferring once again to forge his own path, and we love him for it.

This was not your standard spring/summer collection. There were no florals featured, and we must admit we’re happy to see the change. Lagerfeld obviously felt it was time to try something different, saying backstage at the show that there are ‘enough flower prints around.’ There is no doubt that florals are a popular choice for the warmer months, but in saying that, they are also a safe choice… And Lagerfeld is anything but safe.

This was a collection that hinted at sports luxe, but also incorporated skirts, coloured fur, shirt-dresses and masculine jackets with sharp tailoring. We’re lusting after a black silk shirt-dress that has the signature Fendi ‘F’ logo splashed across the front, and oozed laid-back chic. Many looks consisted of eccentric patterns that were almost geometric, and we loved the overall uber modern effect. Another favourite was a dress that fell just above the knee, and was made up entirely of silver and gold embellished detailing. With a thick black band at the waist and structured shoulder overlay detailing, this was a simply stunning dress that has skyrocketed to the top of our lust-list.
