As winter draws on with its biting wind and cold rainy nights, I’m sure I’m not the first to be thinking of Spring. Luckily the David Jones Spring/Summer 2012 campaign starring the gorgeous Miranda Kerr brings a bit of colour and sunshine into our lives. Shot earlier this year in sunny (and warm) Broome, Western Australia, the campaign also stars fellow David Jones ambassador Samantha Harris, Australia’s Next Top Model 2011 winner, Montana Cox and Jason Dundas.
The sandy beach of Broome made the perfect backdrop for showing off key pieces by Australia’s best fashion designers and the trends we’ll we wearing in Spring/Summer 2012.
“This season’s campaign is all about celebrating our phenomenal Australian design talent so we took a new approach to shooting the campaign, capturing the fashion moments in the natural beauty of our Australian landscape. The David Jones team travelled to a remote part of Broome to shoot the new campaign. Photographed in two parts by renowned photographers Nicole Bentley and Hugh Stewart,” says Sophie Clark, David Jones General Manager Womenswear.
“This summer at David Jones, we want to make you dream. Whether your imagination takes you to St Tropez or Africa, Bondi or Broome, fashion is all about the escape capsule wardrobe.”
It an effort to add to their already illustrious line up of Australian fashion designers, David Jones has also expanded swimwear offerings with the launch of We Are Handsome, Camilla and Collette Dinnigan swim joining the likes of Jets by Jessika Allen, Isola by Megan Gale, Zimmermann swim, Anna & Boy and Tigerlily instores.
David Jones will unveil their Spring/Summer 2012 trends on the runway at a VIP launch on August 14th 2012 – but they’re peeling back the curtains to allow you to get a front row seat at the runway show. Designers talk inspiration to David Jones:
Nicky Zimmermann, Josh Goot and Camilla & Marc talk about their inspiration around their Spring/Summer 2012 collections available at David Jones.
The Spring/Summer 2012 trends according to David Jones:
Riviera Dreaming
This season, designers have the Côte d’Azur on the brain. Jane Birkin in Cannes in 1969 is your muse. Be inspired by the dress over pants trend, as seen on the international runways, and layer a cream Trelise Cooper crochet dress over a pair of cropped white pants by Bassike. Get colour savvy: navy and white are punctuated by accents of jade, ochre, turquoise and red. For a more modern nautical look, forgo the traditional ‘Breton’ navy and white stripe in place of vibrant, eye-catching lines. Key wardrobe essentials to take note of include the relaxed blazer, full skirt and striped jersey dress.
Craft Works
This season, it’s time to join the fashion tribe as style gets a shot of globetrotting adventure with safari colours and eye popping tribal patterns. Designers have turned to North Africa for print and colour inspiration. Welcome the return of earthy, sandy hues inspired by nature. Brown is back, along with tones of cinnamon, sand, tangerine and terracotta. Turn to EP by Easton Pearson for sweet sundresses in tribal prints. Zimmermann also offers artisanal mesh knits. Jump on the printed pant trend with Gary Bigeni’s geometric patterned trousers. To finish your look, accessorise with a Gregory Ladner hat or scarf.
That Seventies Show
Let the bright in: jewel colours make a brilliant return this summer. Imagine Bianca Jagger in her Studio 54 days, long and languid, in a white trouser suit or halter neck dress. Your destination is Boogie Wonderland. Embrace Jagger’s love of vibrant print and colour, with an exotic and oriental twist. Sit poolside with a floor skimming maxi in magenta or an all in one jumpsuit in jade. Pump up the glamour by dressing a sun-kissed décolleté with a bold gold necklace and finish with towering wedges.
Club Tropicana
This season, fashion has the sunny feel of an endless summer. Look as though you’re jetting off to an exotic island, dressed in bold tropical patterns and hothouse florals. Myriad designers have injected a tropic tone into their collections, from C&M Camilla and Marc’s quirky parrot printed sundress to French Connection’s cherry hibiscus flower suit, which has a seventies flair. New to David Jones, you’ll love the palm tree prints from We Are Handsome. An uplifting colour palette awaits – from lemon and lime tones at Lisa Ho to vivid shades of orange and aqua at Alice McCall.
Escape Capsule
The great getaway begins. If you’re escaping the city, or even looking for breezy weekend attire, then this trend is for you. Get into the holiday mood with crisp white, sand, terracotta and blonde coloured looks. Key white on white looks were seen at Bec & Bridge and Bassike. This trend is all about easy, wearable and uplifting pieces. There’s also a 70’s boho mood in the air. Cue thrilling gold accessories, which shine brightly against the neutral hues. Play with texture too: raffia, lace, mesh and crochet.
