BY TARGET
Fashion is one of those things that can be open to all kinds of interpretation. Ask one person what they think of the boyfriend look trend and they will tell you that they love the ripped denim/cut-off shorts look. Ask another and they may ask why you and your boyfriend are the same denim size.
I love that about fashion, that and any single persons sense of style can be different, even if on paper it can be described the same. Truth is, we all have different body shapes, likes and dislikes. So when it comes to the boyfriend look I like that Alexa Chung rocks it, it can be dressed up or down and comfort is definitely the key.
How I wear the boyfriend look:
My style can be described on the classic with a touch of modern styling here and there. While I don’t often chase the newest trend, I like to buy new items every few weeks to keep my wardrobe updated with pieces that are trend driven but fit into my style. When I got my first pair of boyfriend jeans (baggy, ripped at the knee and thigh) I wore them constantly with a nice t-shirt or button down shirt and a sharp blazer or a leather jacket. Accessories were kept to some classic pieces like a watch and a chain necklace while footwear was either pumps, heeled sandals or black ballet flats.
It was easy and simple and suited my day to day life where I can go from running to meetings with clients to an event launching a new skin care cream over lunch at a nice restaurant to a fun cocktail or two at night with friends.
Why shop the boyfriend look at Target:
Trends come and go and often unless I am looking for an investment piece or have fallen in love with a particular item, I am always on the lookout for quality and a bargain. After popping into Target to write this piece, I discovered that perhaps Gok Wan was right… style and saving money can go hand in hand. Boyfriend jeans for $49 and denim shorts for $29? Bargain. Then we stumbled upon the rows of chic casual button down shirts and not-too-high heels that were trendy in the way we love and retailing at only $40.
And since I have saved a few hundred dollars by snapping up some stylish bargains at Target, I have a few extra dollars to play with… which means skipping down the lolly aisle at Target is totally a good idea!
