We love being able to watch a designer as their collections mature and evolve, and today at MBFWA we saw just how grown up the Bec & Bridge girls are now. Designers Becky Cooper and Bridget Yorston explained that “the Bec & Bridge girls changes and grows each season,” and the look for the SS 2013/14 ‘Chromolux‘ range was that of a grown up, sensual one.
The minimalistic collection consisted of mainly muted palette, with ice pink and cool mint hues juxtaposed against splashes of plum and navy. This was certainly a more grown-up collection, with figure hugging dresses and skirts reigning supreme, along with sharply tailored trousers. Despite the looks fitting close to the body, the material appeared to glide along the models’ skin, rather than cling on.
Cooper and Yorston were clever in their fabric choices, with pearlescent sheens on trousers, blazers, dresses and sleeveless shirts catching the light and subtly suggesting a fluid, seductive motif. Sharp cutouts on the back of dresses suggested that this newly matured Bec & Bridge girl is not afraid to take a risk, while sheer panelling on dresses and tanks suggested a sporty luxe.
This was a clean-cut collection that successfully channelled a 90s mimimalist look, which allowed the pieces to be seen exactly as Cooper and Yorston wanted: cool, confident, and a little mysterious.
