Milan Fashion Week S/S 2013: It’s all light and airy fun at Versace

Before showing at Milan Fashion Week, Donatella Versace said that the show we would be seeing we ‘subtle.’ And we have to say that by Versace standards, it was. Yes there were still bright hues and elegant tailoring, embellishments and flashes of skin in true Versace style, but the House’s Spring/Summer collection was almost a more grown-up version of seasons past. There were light and airy dresses in an array of bright hues, ranging from candy pinks to tangerine oranges and gun-metal blues.

With the approaching festive season in mind, we spotted a few looks that would definitely turn heads and win admirers. Our favourite look was a fitted halter dress with a mini skirt and thick belt that cinched the dress in at the waist. Then, perhaps in channeling Great Gatsby glam but with a modern Versace-esque twist, metallic metal fringing completed the look, giving it a daring edge.

Versace is not a brand that we find particularly wearable, but the designs are fun and airy nonetheless, and offer a certain sense of adventure. Our guess is that the devoted Versace wearer is an extrovert who is not afraid to experiment with fashion and the latest trends, and that is what we love about the House and what it offers to the fashion industry overall.
