It was one of the most anticipated shows to be featured this Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia: Toni Maticevski‘s first ever standalone show of his ready-to-wear line, Maticevski. The line consisted of the usual refined elegance we’re so used to seeing in the designer’s made-to-measure creations, and showcasing some seriously chic feminine silhouettes.
Set to a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack , we couldn’t help but be drawn in to the stunning world of Maticevski, where a muted palette ruled, albeit with splashes of citrus yellow, peach and pastel pink. In a celebration of the marriage between feminine silhouettes and the arrival of relaxing spring days, the collection consisted of structured jackets, sophisticated jersey basics and intricate embellishments that were a nod to Maticevski’s couture origins.
A standout of the collection was a chic, fitted black dress; the potentially ordinary made extraordinary with encrusted beaded detailing on the shoulders and hips. We saw peplum tops again (note so self: invest in a peplum piece ASAP), and this time they were black with gold stardust motifs.
We loved the high, slicked back hair that was reminiscent of a feminine James Dean look, and the makeup was elegantly natural, save for a pale pink lip and retro-inspired winged eyeliner.
