After debuting his line by Johnny in 2010 at Fashion Week, Project Runway Australia alumni Johnny Schembri was back again at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia today with a fun new collection. by Johnny seemed to find the happy medium between two current trends, neon and pastel, with candy shades of pink, purple, green and yellow seen throughout. Bold stripes were a main feature in the collection, and were seen on peplum tops, dresses and skirts, and combined cheekily with bold floral patterns. We loved the icy mint and turquoise tones of the florals!
We’ve seen a lot of floaty, girly, pastel pieces so far this week, so it was a refreshing change to see a smart combination of trends throughout the entirety of the collection. In signature by Johnny style, there were quite a few fitted mini skirts that caught our eye and would be perfect for pairing with peplum tops.
The focal piece for the collection was a black knee-length dress with delicate draped detailing, and in a surprise twist: spike detailing at the waist, which toughened up the otherwise feminine silhouette. We also caught a glimpse of sports-luxe in the form of a fitted racerback dress, which was a perfect combination of casual and chic.
MAC cosmetics were in charge of creating the sexy smoky eye and chic and natural glossy lips we saw, and the understated elegant look was a perfect pairing for the collection.
It was definitely a smooth show from a still relatively new designer, and we can’t wait to see what by Johnny brings us next.
