We’ve seen a lot of 1920s glam of late, and this trend continued in to the Aurelio Costarella show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia. Known for his glamourous gowns with intricate beading, embroidery and embellishments, the show was a nod to the chic silhouettes of the 1920s, with a delicate colour palette to match. This collection oozed luxe through the use of beads and feathers, but without being too over-the-top. We saw the use of elegant hues such as pearl, ivory, pastel pink, black and splashes of turquoise and pale mustard.
It’s not hard to imagine these pieces making appearances on red carpets, with embroidered corsets, feathers, accentuated waistlines and a touch of flapper-glam. Corsets also made an appearance, and included luxe-layered detailing that flattered the hips. Made to love the female silhouette, these pieces combined high-class glamour with wearability for that special occasion. Hair was slicked back into elegant ponytails, and the makeup was dramatic and cloudy, complete with aqua eye-shadow that really made the models’ eyes pop.
My favourite piece was a one-shouldered champagne coloured cocktail dress, which consisted of stunning beaded detailing around the torso in colours of black, yellow, purple and salmon. Utterly fabulous and completely practical, now all I need is a special occasion for such a dress.
