It was all about girly fun at the Miss Unkon show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia today, where dreamy sorbet colours had us picturing days spent in the warm sun again. Models sashayed down the runway to tunes by Phoenix and The Runaways, and we were certain this was a show where fun was to be had. It’s not secret that Courtney Meyer’s prides herself on creating a brand that can on the ability to tell a story, and this show told the story of the beautiful things that little girls the world over dream of. Floaty tops, lightweight skirts, button-up blouses, cap-sleeved dresses, delicate layering details: you name it, it was all there in the form of chic, girly silhouettes.
Pleated silk skirts were toughened up with metallic trimming, while metal cuffs on the models arms gave the otherwise dainty collection a tougher edge. There were also splashes of neon hues, and surprisingly even black, which was a shift away from the girly nature at the core of the show.
It looks like the hues to watch this summer are pastels reminiscent of delicious sorbets in yellow, pink, peach, blue and white. If we had to pick a favourite look? It would have to be the pastel peach dress with a delicate pleated skirt. Cinching in at the waist, this dress is perfect for garden party cocktails in the sun.
