Camels walking off Cable Beach, Broome, Western Australia
When I started writing this post, I was looking at the blue waters of the Indian Ocean and white sands of Cable Beach in Broome, Western Australia. The sands may be white but I’ve been riding camels, gone pearl shopping and gawked in awe at the red dirt in one of Australia’s northern cities. The whole experience is reminding me a little of the Sex and the City movie 2. Which makes me cringe a little as we avoid inserting the prerequisite jokes from the movie.
But like any trip, it just adds to my yearning to jump on a jet plane and go travelling. This work trip has me thinking that a trip to Morocco in the Middle East is in order (on the way to a Haute Couture show in Paris of course, sweetie darling). Why Morocco? The beautiful city of Marrakech was the home away from home for the illustrious Yves Saint Laurent and features some of the amazing experiences we have done in the last few days and more.
YSL’s lifelong partner Pierre Bergé was once quoted saying:
“When Yves Saint Laurent and I arrived in Marrakech for the first time in 1966, we did not know that this city would play such an important role in our lives, that we would buy three houses here including that of Majorelle with its famous garden, or that Morocco would become our country of adoption, our second homeland.”
How could a place that captured the mind and heart of such a talented couturier not be worth going to?
After scouring the Peregrine Reserve website and their tours of Morocco, our hit list for our ‘dream’ trip to Morocco would include:
- Going souking in Marrakech, Fes and Taroudant
- A Caleche ride in Marrakech
- A camel trek and night camping on the dunes of the Sahara Desert
- Walking in the Atlas mountains, then exploring Berber Village.
A colourful country, Morocco is a gem than brings the best of Europe, Arabia and Africa into one location. From scoring a bargain the bazaar’s or taking your taste buds on a spicy journey, it’s definitely a place we want to hit sooner rather than later.
