In a show that rivalled Karl Largerfeld’s for Chanel, Marc Jacobs presented a féerique Spring/Summer offering for Louis Vutton, complete with a merry-go-round and Kate Moss. Models wore tiaras perched on their heads or thin white Alice bands as they either rode the mery-go-round or strutted down the catwalk in a collection that combined soft pastels in green, peach and blue with vibrant yellow and fresh white.
Skirts featured heavily in the collection and were either voluminous, combined with a cropped blazer with oversized buttons and large embroidered collar, or pencil cut with Broderie Anglaise flower detail. The oversized embroidered collars also featured on jersey tops with gather detail at the waist or on knit wear which gave an elegant, lady like feel to the collection. The flower detail continued through the collection, either as a layer over other colours or as applique detail. In particular, a stunning navy and white skirt suit or a simple white turtleneck paired with a latte, black and silver pencil skirt. Marabou feathers in pink, lemon, turqoise or white were also added to voluminous broderie dresses adding further to the fairytale theme. What also caught out eye were the bags, the speedy has been re-vamped with this seasons pastels featuring on the monogram print with a vibrant yellow edge added.
Kate closed the show, wearing an all white ensemble of a Broderie Anglaise dress with marabou feathers matched with pointy toed pumps and Alice band. Fellow a-listers Alexa Chung, Dasha Zhukova, Julie Restoin Roitfeld, Natalia Vodianova, Nicole Ritchie and Rachel Zoe were front row fixtures in a show that had fashion fans whispering that the merry-go around theme was reminiscent of Chanel Fall 2008/2009 – different but eerily similar. Such a shame, because it detracted from a beautiful collection, one of our favourites from Louis Vuitton in years.
