Without a doubt, Chanel‘s Spring/Summer show was THE show to be at this week in Paris. With a performance by Florence and the Machine set against a mythical underwater opalescent backdrop compleete with seahorses, and with Uma Thurman and Clémence Poésy in attendance at the Grand Palais, you almost forgot about the clothes. The tailored collection featured classic Chanel jackets matched with looser fitting dresses and included shorts, giving the collection a more relaxed feel. The palette was mostly pastel, with hints of bright coral, peach and blue. Largerfeld also used quite a lot of black, particularly on the edges of dresses or combining black skinny leg pants with bright coloured jackets and blouses.
“Silicone, cellophane, paper, and even fibreglass: new materials weigh nothing; they are immaterial,” notes Karl Lagerfeld of his different material choice.
Overall dresses had voluminous sleeves, either long balloon style, or capped at the shoulder with the length falling mostly at the knee. It is hard to choose one stand out piece from the collection. For the dresses, the black lace embellished white pleated dress or more structured cream dress with lace detail on the sleeves and sides with a pearl belt, to a black dress with voluminous pockets with shimmering white organza shells appliquéd on the shoulders and pockets or a pale blue dress with cloqué brocade that looked like pearls, all of which were stunning. As for the jackets, there was the stunning white classic Chanel jacket with iridescent blue sequins, or a soft sand coloured blazer with a wide neck line and pearl buttons or a mint green round neck jacket for a pop of colour. The collection was accessorised with silver sandals tied around the ankle and overall the collection was incredibly wearable and very modern.
