Lauren Weisberger (aka the author of the book that spawned the movie, The Devil Wears Prada) has a new book out – Last Night At Chateau Marmont. So of course journalists are asking about her time back in 1999 at US Vogue working as an assistant to Anna Wintour. On making powerful enemies because of TDWP she said “There were powerful people at the time who were unhappy with it. I was 25 years old and had no idea what I was getting into. The New York city media likes writing about New York city media so a lot of people gave their opinions.”
Asked if she has spoken to Wintour since she launched the book, Weisberger commented that “We don’t travel in the same circles. We were at a screening of the film once but we didn’t talk to each other.”
But her time at Vogue wasn’t completely miserable according to the writer, commenting that she did have crazy hours but the “perks were amazing too. When I started at the new job (at a travel magazine) it was a shock when I couldn’t get my dry cleaning or taxis to work on expenses and they didn’t pay for my meals. Although I guess Condé Nast isn’t as lavish now as it was in 1999.”
