Firstly, I must admit I saw Sex and the City 2 movie as soon as it hit cinemas in Australia last week. I thought it was light viewing with some memorable parts. We could critique it further, but everyone has had their two cents worth all over the web. And while the critics and the cinema takings don’t agree with each other, it seem that Sex and the City 3 is planned, but could potentially see a different actress playing Carrie Bradshaw with the movie likely to be a prequel.
According to Kim Cattrall, it’s Michael Patrick King’s call as to whether there are more movies in the Sex and the City franchise, saying: “I don’t know if there will be a third. I hope there will be. I think there’s more stories to be told. That’s totally his call.”
But don’t count on watching the Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda growing old, the third movie may be a prequel. E! Online says the third movie will be based on Candance Bushell’s latest novel staring Carrie Bradshaw called The Carrie Diaries. It deals with the life of Carrie as a teenager presumably outside of New York City in the 1970s and 1980s.
We’re a little frightened at the prospect, after the proposed set-in-1980s spin-off of Gossip Girl flunked. It would mean fresh new characters and actors but will the maturing SATC audiences want to follow the character of Carrie Bradshaw back to her childhood? Highly unlikely. A straight to DVD release could be imminent.
On the plus side we won’t have to watch Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon grow older (but dress younger) before our very eyes.
Oh dear, I REALLY hope they leave it at 2.. i have to say that the sequel was a total disappointment to me (but I won’t go on about that either) and I do think they should just leave things as they are and allow true SATC fans to remember the girls in their original form, i.e. HBO series
