It was revealed in January that Gucci were set to start add a couture line to the fashion house, and just 4 months later it has been revealed on the red carpet on the opening day of the Cannes Film Festival. Fittingly the Gucci Premiere collection designed by Frida Giannini was worn by Salma Hayek, the wife of the Francois-Henri Pinault who happens to be the CEO of Gucci’s parent company PPR.
Hayek has been trying very hard to be edgy and cool of late, thanks to PPR’s stable of fashion houses – which include Gucci, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney – but she returned to her regal best in this bordeaux silk georgette one shouldered gown, the first Gucci Premiere collection piece to be seen by the public. Gucci Premiere collection designs, like all haute couture designs, are only available on a made-to-order basis and for celebrities to wear on red carpet outings.
What do you think of this first look at Gucci’s Premier collection?
