After weeks of rumors and unconfirmed announcements, Emanuel Ungaro has finally confirmed to WWD that they have enlisted the help of Giles Deacon as their new creative director, following on from Estrella Arches (and Lindsay Lohan). After 6 years of a procession of creative directors at Ungaro, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what the fashion house core aesthetics are in this modern day and age. But Deacon has plans to change all of that by bringing his own feminine and print aesthetic to Ungaro.
“I obviously don’t want to infringe upon my own line, but I like things that are very feminine, lots of color, great prints, great quality, some unusual cuts. All of those things that I like in the world of fashion design I’m going to bring to what I feel is appropriate for the Ungaro woman,” he said.
Deacon’s first collection for the house of Emanuel Ungaro will be shown in a presentation during Paris Fashion Week in October instead of a runway presentation – a smart move by Deacon to move to a more intimate show, away from the glaring lights of a high voltage runway presentation.
What do you think of this announcement? It’s definitely a positive thing for Ungaro, but surely Deacon could do better than having to clean up the mess that is the house of Ungaro.
