Previewing Australian designer collections in the lead up to Rosemount Australian Fashion Week S/S 2011
Not all young designers get the “one to watch” stamp emblazed across any written editorial they get, but Sara Phillips is one of the few who star had shone brighter since her debut at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week three years ago.
Known for her youthful style with a slight left of centre take on feminity, her designs have garnered her a legion of fans who eagerly await every piece that’s set to drop in boutiques around the country. As she gears up for her fourth year at RAFW (which starts on May 3 – and we’ll be there), Phillips took a few minutes out of her busy schedule to talk about her up and coming Spring/Summer 2011 collection
Tell us a little about the collection you’re going to launch for S/S 2010/11.
SP: Our new SS 2010/11 collection has a few varied inspiration points, there is a strong art deco theme and also a heritage theme. Colours for us this season will be light and sun faded, fresh but true to the Sara Phillips aesthetic.
Who do you see wearing this collection?
SP: Our clothes are for every woman, we never design with a certain celebrity in mind.
What can we expect to see from your S/S 2011 show at RAFW? Any theatrics or special appearances on/off the catwalk?
SP: We prefer to let the clothes speak for themselves with out theatrics or distraction.
What are some of your favourite websites/blogs to read?
SP: I love blogs and the instant satisfaction they give! There are some great Australian blogs and the international Jak and Jill and The Sartorialist. We regularly update and communicate with our customers at saraphillips.com.au on our own blog.
If you’re not familiar with Sara Phillips, get to know the name now.
We loved her Spring/Summer 2010 collection and needless to say her Winter 2010 collection, named Iris, with its mix of nudes and blush tones intermixed broquade, beeswax and black to it give the a powerful yet effortless attitude was one of her best yet.
Check out the look book below and stay tuned for Sara Phillip’s Spring/Summer 2010 fresh off the RAFW runway next month!
