The sun was shining the Botanical Gardens in Sydney when Marnie Skillings showed her whimsical collection inspired by summer and its whimsy and searing sexiness. It’s hardly un common that designers are showing the week before Rosemount Australian Fashion Week officially kicks off on Monday and this was the perfect precursor to the week’s crazy festivities with much of the fashion pack out for Skillings’ show.
For spring/summer 2010-11 Marnie Skillings has given us frivolity in the clean and easy shapes, no mean feat. It came through in the form of floral or kitten & puppy prints and handmade pom pom embellishments made out of Skillings print archive from the last 10 years which trimmed everything from camisoles, necklaces and covetable fraying straw hats adorning the models heads.
Our favourite look (which we wished terribly that we could pull off) is a floral and striped dress with floating chiffon wafting from the waist line.
It was a collection for hipsters who don’t trawl through second hand stores hoping for bargain – and if rumours are true and Alexa Chung is due in town for RAFW next week, we could see her rocking these off beat-cool looks.
Stay tuned because we’ll be covering Rosemount Australian Fashion Week – starting next week – from the front to the back of house and even the VIP wine bar.
Love that dress with the mixed (stripes and floral) print.
