Balmain has been a buzz brand for the last few seasons, helped by the likes of Carine Roitfeld and her daughter Julia Restoin-Roitfeld who have been seen all over the world in edgy Balmain designs. Well the Christophe Deacon, the French fashion house’s Creative Director, has teamed up with Californian based eyewear company Oliver Peoples to delve into the world of eyewear, creating two limited edition styles for spring 2010.
“The collaboration with Christophe and his team felt completely natural,” says Oliver Peoples Founder and Creative Director, Larry Leight. “The brands make sense together from a design standpoint in that both maintain an inspirational position and value a premium level of quality. Those who want the best in runway turn to Balmain, and those who want the best in eyewear turn to Oliver Peoples.”
The first style is simply called Balmain I, a bold unisex style that hints at the hipster trend floating around at the moment with a touch of 1990s retro thanks to their exaggerated teardrop lens shape. Balmain I is available in two colours: black and silver (pictured) and solid black. It hits stores this month and will retail for $595, making it a Balmain piece that won’t break your bank account if you happen to buy more than one piece.
