Jason Wu isn’t one to follow the designers rule book about what you should and shouldn’t do. At the age of 27, Wu has already dressed First Lady Michelle Obama and is about to unveil his first non-fashion collaboration with General Imaging. Wu has teamed up with General Imaging – better known as for their home appliances and light bulbs under the brand name GE – to design a line of digital cameras aimed at the fashion conscious consumer. (Translation, we’re slapping some pretty casing on some existing cameras and hope people who like pretty things will buy them. A cynical view, but we’re still hoping to be surprised when product images are released.)
“As a highly visual person, I love taking pictures of the many beautiful things I encounter in my everyday life which then often influence my designs. It seemed like a natural to partner with GIC on a camera that represents my style and passion for photography,” says Jason Wu.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Jason Wu and see this opportunity as a way to extend his distinct sense of style and eye for fashion now in a digital camera,” says Paul Meyhoefer, General Imaging’s vice president of Marketing and Product Planning.
The new line of Jason Wu for General Imagining digital cameras is set to be launched next month during New York Fashion Week which means the people lucky enough to be given a front row seat at Wu’s show may score themselves a freebie.
