Bike thief is apparently a regular occurrence at Cambridge, England with more than 1,900 bikes stolen in the city in the first 10 months of 2009. Unfortunately British model Lily Cole is now an extra number in that statistic with her £600 Pashley Princess Sovereign bicycle stolen from the Cambridge University campus where Cole is studying. It was one of her prized possessions with a darling wicker basket attached to the front – one of the reasons Cole bought the bike in the first place.
“I bought the bike because it had a nice basket and they just left it there,” she told the Daily Mail. “They took the basket off and left it on the ground. I think that was the most hurtful part of the ordeal.”
She added that she always took care of her bike, watching where she takes it to avoid the seemingly inevitable it seem.
“I don’t park it at the station. The station is like a cesspit of cycles. It’s a bit ugly, so I don’t take my bike there. I don’t think it’s nice to put it in so much danger.”
Meanwhile Cole revealed to Vogue.co.uk that she really doesn’t miss runway modeling, saying that it’s much more fun to watch from the sidelines. In an interesting interview, Cole also talks about her input into the costume design for her role as Valentina in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, her favourite fashion designers and what’s next for the young model/actress/student.
