Less than two months after Yves St. Laurent’s passing, the legendary auction house, Christie’s, has announced that they will be auctioning Monsieur St. Laurent’s extensive art collection this coming February. The collection belonged not only to the designer, but also his longtime love, Pierre Berge. Although no artists have been named yet, it is believed that the collection includes Picasso, Matisse, Goya, and Warhol among many other notables. Can’t wait to see who walks away with what!
The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists have been announced this week. Nominees include Richard Chai, Irene Neuwirth, Juan Carlos Obando, John Patrick of Organic, the ladies behind Vena Cava, the husband and wife duo of Obedient Sons and Daughters, Alejandro Ingelmo, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and Albertus Q.Swanepoel of Alburtus Quartus. Past winners include Doo.Ri, Rogan, Proneza Schouler, and Trovata. The winner will receive $200, 000 USD and an industry mentorship. Look for an exciting spread featuring the finalists in an upcoming Fall issue of US Vogue.
The classic film, The Wizard of Oz, is celebrating its seventieth birthday this year and Warner Bros. has teamed up with Swarovski to commission twenty lucky designers to recreate Dorothy’s iconic ruby slippers. The shoes will be auctioned off sometime in 2009 to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, but before that they will make appearances at New York Fashion Week, Art Basel in Miami, and various other locations.
