He’s just opened a new3,100-square-foot boutique in LA, but Alexander McQueen does not want the Paris Hilton type of celebrity shopping in his store.
“If she comes past the shop, hopefully she’ll just keep walking,” McQueen told the Independent newspaper. “I don’t really covet that sort of thing.”
Obviously McQueen is not going to be like it Italian counterparts, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana who court celebrities, who then in return wear their designs. This is not the first time McQueen has said he’s spoken out about the ‘celebrities’.
Last year he told US Harper’s Bazaar that he believed that fashion was “not about celebrity”.
“I can’t get sucked into that celebrity thing because I think it’s just crass. I work with people who I admire and respect. It’s never because of who they are,” he said. “It’s not about celebrity; that would show a lack of respect for the work, for everyone working on the shows, because when the pictures come out it’s all about who’s in the front row. What you see in the work is the person itself. And my heart is in my work.”
So who is actually going to attend his store launch? Amy Winehouse is reportedly set to sing at the party if she can get a visa together in time.
