Marimekko designs will be licensing its Unikko pattern (pictured above) to Avon to create a limited edition cosmetics collection.
“Avon is committed to the vision that all women should have access to great style and fashion. We’re thrilled to partner with global design powerhouse Marimekko – we are so impressed with their great reputation for creating fun, lively, fashion-forward designs,” said Geralyn Breig, Senior Vice President for Avon Products, Inc.
The Marimekko for Avon Color Collection interprets Marimekko’s unique philosophy – design that creates beauty into people’s everyday lives. It will include four limited edition color products, including eyeshadow, face powder, lip gloss and mascara, as well as accessories.
The iconic Unikko pattern was designed by Maija Isola in 1964 with her daughter Kristina Isola re-interpreting the design with a unique look and fresh coloring for Avon. The collection will be launch globally late 2008.
This is Marimekko’s first foray in beauty, but not fashion. Late last year Manolo Blahnik was so inspired by the Finnish textile and clothing design company prints that he used them in some of his spring 2008 shoe designs, then H&M announced that they’re collaborating with Marimekko for a clothing collection set to be launched this April.
