Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have been quite adept at setting runway trends at Proenza Schouler rather than following trends – or following on just slightly from what they did last season. And after last season’s hit military inspired collection, they have taken a new path for fall 2008/09 which was full of mini dresses with mixed fabric coats paired with coloured opaque tights.
It was the mix and match fabrics that caught my attention; heavy coats in wool, twill or velvet were accented with metallic panels and sequins, giving vintage coats a fresh and modern feel. My other favourites were the jewel toned silk mini dresses that came out featuring delicious folds of fabrics which created a great silhouette that translated into tops and jackets with the same fold detail. While wide trousers, opaque tights, coats that looked like they were inside out and metallic dresses finished off their looks for Fall 2009.
