Next years theme for the Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is set to be “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” in line with the exhibit on at the time according to WWD. Giorgio Armani will serve as the evenings honorary chair, with George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Anna Wintour the other cochairs.
The superhero, Batman, seems to have the inside track so far with Batman Begins production designer, Natham Crowley tapped to be the production designer for the Costume Institute, and former Batman, George Clooney serving as a co-chair. The former Batman star’s costars have played leading roles in superhero movies, with Uma Thurman and Alicia Silverstone acting in Batman & Robin with Clooney, and Michelle Pfeiffer played Catwoman in a earlier Batman movie. Jessica Alba also brought to life the female lead in The Fantastic Four, as Sue Storm (the invisible woman).
The benefit will take place on May 5, 2008, and past themes have included Dangerous Liaisons (2004), House of Chanel (2005), Anglomania (2006), in honor of Paul Poiret (2007).
Luella Bartley must be happy, with her spring 2008 collection heavily themed towards superheros.
