Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2007/2008

Paris Haute Couture week 07/08 kicked off in style last night thanks to Christian Dior’s 60th anniversary celebrations and couture show. With such a huge extravaganza event in one night, we did a little number crunching:

5: the number of supermodels on the catwalk for Dior Haute Couture (Gisele Bündchen, Linda Evangelista, Helena Christensen, Shalom Harlow and Naomi Campbell – Kate Moss was due to fly in from London, but pulled out last minute)
10: the number of years John Galliano has been behind the luxury French label
45: the number of models who walked the catwalk
60: the number of years the Christian Dior label has been around
300:
the age of the L’Orangerie de Versailles castle
500: the years of art history (from Leonardo da Vinci to Picasso) Galliano was inspired by
1000: the number of celebrities, clients, and editors who were invited to the celebrations/fashion show at L’Orangerie de Versailles (the former home of King Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette). To name a few celebrities, the likes of Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron, Dita von Teese, Eva Green, Sophia Coppola, Jessica Alba, Zhang Ziyi, Monica Belluci, and Ellen Pompeo were in attendance.

So what did the gowns look like? Breathtaking, truly inspired (literally – each dress was inspired by an artistic era). There were billowing gowns, 1940s style suits, and chiffon columns. It is even more amazing when you take into account that everything would have been hand made and embroidered.

Check out an interview with John Galliano for French TV, there is a small preview of the looks from the show.

P.S. Australian model, Alexandra Agoston-O’Connor was one of the lucky models to feature on the Dior catwalk.
