If you hop on to the Gap website today, you can buy a limited edition collection of shirts, designed exclusively for Gap by Doo.Ri (left), Rodarte (middle) and Thakoon (right).
These three designers are some of America’s emerging talents in the fashion industry, and are CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners. The partnership heralds the start of a new initiative established to support young American design talent. The talented designers were asked to create white shirts, which has been a part of Gap’s heritage for 35 years.
“It’s the perfect iconic item,” said Marka Hansen, president of Gap North America. The designers won’t have their names on the products, but will appear in ads and in collateral materials making them readily identifiable to customers, he added.
“Vogue has a long tradition of supporting young talent – in particular our local talent, to secure a brilliant future for American fashion. And Gap’s Design Editions project is in the same spirit: it will give a boost to the three CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners, and bring their wonderful designs to a much bigger audience,” said Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief, Vogue.
Vogue supports the partnership and young talent so much that the 10 Next Top Models on the May 07 Vogue cover are wearing one of the Gap / CFDA shirts.
The Gap Design Edition advertising campaign has black and white photos of Doo-Ri Chung, Kate and Laura Mulleavy (Rodarte), and Thakoon Panichgul in intimate portraits alongside models Stella Tennant, Liya Kebede and Carmen Kass.
The collection is priced from $68 to $88 and will be available exclusively in flagship and top Gap adult stores in the U.S.,Canada, U.K. and Japan and online Gap.com.
