It’s not the first time that a fashion house has dabbled in the mobile phone world. After all Dolce & Gabbanna partnered with Motorola to redesign the Gold Razr.
Prada are taking it one step further by partnering with LG to develop an iconic forward-thinking mobile phone reported the Daily.
The first Prada telephone by LG will combine high-end technology with avant-garde design, to create a forward-thinking product whose focus is on the key elements inside the phone, such as software, user interface, and music, as well as its look; for example, an advanced touch interface eliminates the conventional keypad.
A price for the unit was not disclosed. The initial launch is planned for distribution starting in Europe—first in Italy, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany—followed by Asian locations such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore.
“As we do with ready-to-wear and accessories, we were looking at a break-through,” said Patrizio Bertelli, president & CEO of Prada. “Consistently with our approach, we are not branding an existing product; rather, Miuccia (Prada) and I have been working with LG to give this new phone a very strong character and unique style, both in its contents and in its design.”
Besides Dolce & Gabanna’s partnership with Motorola, Derek Lam has also had a fleeting partnership with a phone manufacturer. He once gave away free Samsung mobiles in certain front row goody bags at his show after creating a new phone cover for Samsung.
No word on if and when the Prada / LG phone will be released in Australia, but if you know anyone popping overseas in early 2007, I’d ask them to pick one up for you. Or trawl eBay.
