I find countdown shows annoying, what with the running commentary cut in with snippets of ‘celebrities’ adding their two cents worth.
But I would have liked to catch (with remote in hand) BBC Three’s Most Annoying People of 2008 with British model, Agyness Deyn crowned with the title.
Deyn won the top spot in a list of 100 people, beating off the likes of Peaches Geldof, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and former pop singer (and ex wife of Brian McFadden), Kerry Katona, mainly due to over exposure according to the people interviewed on the show.
Former model and TV presenter, Michelle De Swarte said: “She is just everywhere, you can’t get away from her.”
Well Agyness did score the Burberry Spring 2008 ad campaign and The Beat fragrance campaign, a Jean Paul Gaultier Ma Dame fragrance campaign, the Giorgio Armani spring 2008 ad campaign and Giorgio Armani Phone ad campaign this year alone. Not to mention a British Vogue cover, showing off her vocals with The Five O’Clock Heroes, the many stories about her relationship with Stokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr, her friendship with Henry Holland and of course her eccentric fashion sense and hair colour changes.
But it wasn’t all Deyn-bashing on the show with the mayor of her home town of Rossendale in Lancashire, England, Coun Christine Gill, leaping to her defense.
“Agyness is around the same age as my daughter and her brother came to a playgroup I ran. The whole family were really nice people,” she said. “I wouldn’t describe them as annoying at all. Agyness has certainly put Rossendale on the map and we thank her for that. She has bought fame to the area and we wish her well for the future.”
With rumours flying that Agyness’ name has been tossed up in the search for a new Doctor Who side kick, perhaps she might win the title again in 2009.
Do you think Agyness was overexposed in 2008?
